About last night...
I never thought I'd be this girl
If you’d have told me a few years ago what I’d be doing last evening, I never would have believed you. I would have guessed I’d be reading a book, watching a rom com, or catching up on chores on a random Thursday night in March. But you know what I was doing instead?
Watching the LA Dodgers’ home opener on TV. Voluntarily. Excitedly. Who even am I?
Because I love my son and husband, I watched some of the last World Series. And because I’m an author who adores characters, I learned the players’ names and backstories and got INVESTED. The plot (the actual game) is secondary. I’m here for the people I don’t know but feel like I do.
My interest this season may also have something to do with the fact I’m drafting a baseball book at the moment. Well, kind of. It’s less about baseball and more about statistics and young love and the kind of relationships and experiences that make you question who you thought you wanted to be. It’s an ode to the girls who feel like they’ll never quite measure up and that they have to check all the right boxes to be worthy. It’s a tribute to my favorite character in Les Mis. And did I mention it’s YA? It’s all the things I wish someone had said to me as a teenager and what I want to tell my own kids.
I’m hoping to finish this draft by May, and then we’ll see where the story goes from there.
In other writing news, I was honored to find out I’d won a Sparkie Award from Spark Flash Fiction for a story I wrote for them last year. You can read it here.
I’m also thrilled to be part of the production team for Sparkler, a new online magazine geared toward teens. Publications that are truly YA in content are so needed right now. I hope you’ll check out our first issue next month!
If you’re enjoying the warmer days and ready for something summery, Seashells and Other Souvenirs is available to read for free right now on Kindle Unlimited.
There’s also an audiobook version if you’d prefer to listen.
Or, send me a message if you’d like to purchase a signed copy with lovely printed edges.
I’ll be back in your inbox soon with more updates on my latest project, some fun announcements, and hopefully some goose pictures too. I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of the people and things that make you smile.
Love, Hope, & Cheese toast,
Rachel

Eeek! So good. Baseball is life. And so are your stories. Excited!
So excited for this one. I’m expecting a football story after that—Perhaps a sports series? 😆
